ARTIST BIO

I'm a local Bendigo Artist.

Art is my therapy. It’s how I meditate. When I’m painting, I lose myself in the rhythm of the brush strokes and adore the joy it brings me.

I would describe my work as whimsical with a bold and vibrant colour palette. My chosen mediums are watercolours, acrylics and acrylic inks. I paint intuitively on watercolour paper and canvas, building up the layers until an idea appears.

Several artists have influenced my work including Rosetta Santucci, Gus Leunig, Tracy Verdugo and local artist, Kerry Punton.

I have a background in art having completed my HSC in 1987 at MLC, Melbourne where I studied 2D Art, 3D Art and Art History. Back then my art was heavily influenced by the work of abstract Australian painter, Lesley Dumbrell.

I also attended Brighton College and completed a T.O.P in Art and Design which included fine art, photography, printmaking, ceramics and Art History.

I then went on to complete an Associate Diploma of Finished Art at Prahan College, which led me into design and layout.

Over the past 35 years I have worked in Advertising and Marketing in both Melbourne and Bendigo, I edited Bendigo Magazine and LittleOne Baby magazine from home while raising my two sons, cared for my elderly mother following her stroke, painted and exhibited at The Drying Shed Artspace in Castlemaine and in retail as a sole trader of a pre-loved clothing boutique in the heart of Bendigo.

Last year I closed my store following the fatigue of Covid Lockdowns. After a much needed break I picked up my paintbrush and began creating again.

I have always dreamed of being a full time artist. So, now that my two sons are young adults, I have decided to follow the inspirational advice from the father of actor Jim Carrey who said…

“You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love”.
